Paddle in.
Meet Shaun Tomson World Champion Surfer and Entrepreneur talking
about leading with purpose. Please a deep dive into the code he
lived by to be a champion and a business code for entrepreneurial
success.
There are some people in this world who are pure, true guiding
lights. They are hard to find, because they don't often seek the
spotlight. They quietly live in the service of others, and they
speak with such respect for life that their voice rings with rich,
authentic compassion.
Shaun Tomson is just such a human. He is one of the best-known
surfers of all time. He held the World Surfing Championship in
1977, and distinguished himself as a leader of the “Free Ride”
generation of surfers daring enough to surf on Hawaii’s North
Shore.
He paved the way for future surfers and legitimized the sport
internationally, but he went even further when he wrote his
best-selling book, Surfer's Code – 12 Simple lessons for riding
through life.
He worked for Patagonia, started his own company called
Instinct, and even found time to act in several films. Today he is
a board member and ambassador for the Surfrider Foundation, the
world's largest environmental group dedicated to protecting the
world's oceans, waves, and beaches.
In this podcast he tells us the origin story of this timeless
book, and of all the experiences he had following his surf career
using his fame for good. Although he has experienced shocking
personal loss in his life, he has always made it a point to keep
paddling out, and encourages others to ride along with him.
He is one of the most inspiring individuals I’ve ever spoken
with. He is living proof of just how much you can do in one
lifetime if you have a Code.
